Seventy years ago, the Uprising saw civil war break out all across the Kingdom of Heldrassë.
At first, King Ullrich fought alongside House Emerald. However, when Gold and Emerald had fought themselves to ruin, King Ullrich took the throne for the Ruby House, then purged all the other Houses of their remaining power.
A paranoid and ruthless king, he forbade any mention of the Book of Heresies, the catalyst of revolution, and also the teaching of the true history of the Uprising.
‘At the end of the Uprising, when King Ullrich of the Ruby House took the throne from House Gold, he ordered that each Great House give up their heartstones, their symbols of power.
‘What happened to the jewels from the House of Gold, all those years ago, I do not know, perhaps they were destroyed. But I can only wonder at how House Emerald held on to theirs, while all other Houses submitted to the will of the Ruby House. The meaning of the heartstones has been lost, forgotten, the passing-down of such knowledge forbidden.
‘But, I have heard that the women of the Great Houses once wielded immense power, and your story seems to indicate at least a grain of truth to such wonders.
‘But, Maia my child, as I said to you once before, tell no one of its existence. It is a great burden to bear.
