- Reference Notes
Although primarily a research facility, the Maunsworth House site was a Military-funded project, and as such a small garrison of troops were stationed within the surface compound.
At the time of the Heavenfield conflicts the base was under the command of Commander Colin James. As the political importance of the Heavenfield grew, and the conflict escalated, more troops were drafted in to form the newly-designated 'Special Expeditionary Force', trained specifically for combat operations within the Field. Drawn from various elite units within the British Armed Forces, the Maunsworth garrison was a small, but formidable fighting force, and acquitted themselves admirably in the action at the Battle of Maunsworth Field.
